Alpine rock climbing - North Iceland

Join us on the Northern Spires rock climbing tour, the north of Iceland has some spectacular basalt rock climbing spires to offer. Surrounded by the mossy landscape and rugged mountains you will find yourself multi-pitch rock climbing in out of this world environment. Tick of 2 different rock spires in two days.
Trip plan:
Day 1: Hraundrangi rock spire
We pick you up at 08:00 from your accommodation or at the domestic airport in Akureyri. Our objective for the day is to rock climb mountain spire called Hraundrangi. After about 1 hour drive we find ourselves under the magnificent spire. After the approach, we have 2 long pitches of easy climbing (5.6) and we are at the top of the narrow lava spire with an amazing view. We rappel back down and head to a local guesthouse where we have dinner and prepare ourselves for the next day.
Day 2: Kerlingareldur
Today we have an early start and a big objective. The approach to the rock climb takes about 3 hours and some parts of the approach is up steep snow slope so we will need crampons and an ice axe. The climbing is on quality basalt rock and is 6 pitches of sustained 5.7 with one 5.9 move high up on the route which can easily be avoided. Once at the top we get back down and drive back to your accommodation or the domestic airport.
